Transition - assisted breathing

Transition – assisted breathing (2019) / Installation / stone casting powder, medical ventilator unit, chroma key blue paint / 40 x 30 x 40 cm / current pedestal 115 x 115 x 87 cm

About / A medical ventilator unit pumps air to a figure. The half-casted, half-sculpted bust lets the cold air out through its open mouth. As if trying to revive the matter, the artificial ventilation simulates the living breaths of the represented subject, but cold. The surrounding walls, painted chroma key blue, allude to the mutability of the background – suggesting that transitions can happen in any setting.
